December 7, 2018

The Aiken County Animal Shelter and the Friends of the Aiken County Animal Shelter, or FOTAS, are teaming up to conduct the Homes Needed for the Holidays adoption event.

Homes Needed for the Holidays will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Aiken County Animal Shelter at 333 Wire Road in Aiken.

Some animals will be available for lower than usual adoption fees, and in some cases, the adoption fees will be waived.

There also will be Christmas caroling and free refreshments.

People who adopt will be able to get free photos taken of themselves and their new pets with Santa Claus.

Adoption fees will be $35 for dogs and puppies and $10 for cats and kittens.

In addition, a number of dogs sponsored by FOTAS donors will be available for no adoption fee.

All adoptions are subject to approval.

All of the available pets on the adoption floor are have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

The shelter is at full capacity. From Oct. 1 to Dec. 5, the facility received more than 900 strays and surrendered pets.

According to a press release from FOTAS, the winter holiday season is usually a busy adoption time at the shelter and Homes Needed for the Holidays is expected to help find forever homes for many of the available dogs, puppies, kittens and cats.

Last year, S.C. Secretary of State Mark Hammond recognized FOTAS for being one of the most efficient and effective charities in the Palmetto State by including the organization on his annual list of “Angels.”
