FLORENCE, S.C. – A group of four-legged visitors will attend the August edition of Florence After Five.
The Budweiser Clydesdales will appear at the event Friday in downtown Florence.
The horses are scheduled to arrive at 4:30 p.m., hitching will begin at 5 p.m., and the horses will parade on the 100 block of South Dargan to deliver beer to the bars on that section of Dargan Street. The horses will then be moved to an area of Florence After Five for visitors to meet them at 6:15 p.m.
The Clydesdales were going to be in the area because of the Bojangles’ Southern 500 on Sept. 2, Florence Downtown Development manager Ray Reich said. Florence was approached to see if the city would be interested in having the Clydesdales appear at the Florence After Five event.
“We said absolutely,” Reich said. “It would be a wonderful opportunity for people to get up close and personal with them [the Clydesdales] than maybe at the racetrack.”
This month’s Florence After Five also is scheduled to feature Blackwater Rhythm and Blues Band. Blackwater, according to its website, performs beach, blues and funk. The band features Donald Jordan on guitar and vocals, William Sellers on keyboard and vocals, Dale Edwards on trombone and vocals, Jeff Alspaugh on trombone and Devin Dove on drums.
Blackwater is scheduled to go on the stage at 6 p.m.
Florence After Five, an event created to prove the viability of the downtown market, begins at 5:30 p.m. in the 100 block of South Dargan Street. Food and beverages are available for purchase at the event. To purchase food and beverages, visitors must purchase tickets from a booth located in the driveway next to the Waters Building.
