Bridegroom Arrested After Allegedly Shooting New Wife During Argument

April 27, 1992

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ A bridegroom was arrested after allegedly shooting his new wife in the stomach soon after their front-porch wedding, authorities said.

Laurette Kenny, 38, and Raymond Brunson, 50, apparently got into a fight as the reception wound down Saturday. She pitched a plate of macaroni salad at him and then got shot with a .22-caliber handgun, police said.

Ms. Kenny was reported in stable condition today at St. Joseph’s Hospital, a nursing supervisor said.

Brunson was held without bond at Hillsborough County jail following his arrest early this morning. Police arrested Brunson on probable cause for attempted murder and violation of probation for aggravated battery, said inmate information technician Connie Johnson. An arraignment set for Tuesday.

Friends said they weren’t sure what happened.

About 30 friends and relatives, including the bride’s three children, attended the wedding. Vows were exchanged on the porch.

″It looked like everything was going real good,″ said Vicki Holmes, who lives across the street. ″Their wedding cake was gorgeous. I watched them carry it out of the house.″

Holmes said she and most other guests had left when the shot was heard. By the time police arrived Saturday, Brunson was gone.

Said neighbor Michael Martin: ″I’ve never seen him violent, never heard them yelling. It blows me away.″
