La Porte Soccer Club Trivia Night/Silent Auction Saturday

A Trivia Night and Silent Auction to support the La Porte Soccer Club for boys and girls soccer will be on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Civic Auditorium Banquet Hall (downstairs). You can help support area youth by donating items/money for the silent auction, and joining them for a night of fun, auctions, and trivia hosted by Ben Konowitz. La Porte Travel Soccer sign-ups

Registration is still open for La Porte Travel Soccer. They have a few openings for U10, U12 and U14 players for the fall season. U10 born between 8-1-08 and 7-31-10. Slicers/Lakers’ tennis schedule change

La Porte’s boys tennis home match versus La Lumiere scheduled for Sept. 19 will now be played on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. at the LeRoy Courts. The 1968 Slicer state champions will be honored that evening.

Turbos Swim Club needs assistant

The La Porte Turbos Swim Club is seeking qualified applicants for an assistant coach position to work with early developmental training groups. The position is 10-15 hours per week from 5-8 p.m., and some weekends for meets. The assistant works with the coach to teach proper technique and prepare swimmers for meets, monitor groups during practices, and promote safety. Applicants must be willing to complete CPR certification and become a registered member of USA Swimming. Experience swimming at the high school or collegiate level, or previous coaching experience is preferred. The club pays an hourly rate and compensation for all training and certification. 2018 La Porte City Golf Tournament

The 2018 La Porte City Golf Tournament at Beechwood Golf Course, sponsored by Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, is upcoming. Participants must play a qualifying round by Sunday in an approved group. Results from the qualifying rounds of stroke play will flight the field. There will be a Senior Flight for those 60 years and older. The three-round match play tournament will be Aug. 10, 11, and 12 with tee times beginning at 11 a.m. The cost is $65 per player and 100 percent of the entry goes towards the prize pool and banquet on Sunday. USTA Junior Tennis league forming

Area teams are being put together for United State Tennis Association’s Junior Team Tennis, a coed league for ages 18 and under. Matches will be played Tuesday and Thursday evenings in Porter and Lake counties. The fee is $18 and USTA membership is not required. Paladin hosts co-ed softball tournament

Paladin is looking for teams to play their first inaugural Co-ed Softball Tournament on August 25 at Patriot Park Sports Complex in Michigan City. Teams must consist of at least five men and five women 18 or older. Registration fee is $250 per team. The tournament will raise funds to help support persons with disabilities. 7th annual Runnin’ for Prestin 5K/10K

The 7th annual Runnin’ for Prestin 5K/10K will be Sept. 15 in Washington Park, starting at 8 a.m. at the shelter by the splash pad. Proceeds from the run go towards pediatric cancer research at Riley Children’s Hospital. The race was named in honor of Prestin, who was 10 years old when he was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. The 63rd annual Porter AM golf tournament will be played the weekends of Sept. 8-9 and Sept. 15-16. The master division and women’s division will start at 8 a.m. Sept. 8 at Forest Park; the open division will start at 8 a.m. that at The Brassie. 10th annual Bike Michiana for Hospice ride

The Center for Hospice Care and the Hospice Foundation announce the 10th Annual Bike Michiana for Hospice will take place Sunday, September 23, starting and finishing at the Center’s Mishawaka Campus next to Central Park, along the scenic St. Joseph River. 2019 Cougar Baseball Club open tryouts

Tryouts for the 2019 Cougar Baseball Club (CBC) 16U baseball team will be Saturday, August 18, and Sunday, August 19, from 3-5 p.m. at Washington Township High School’s varsity field on State Road 2 in Valparaiso.
