Police end search for burglary suspect who jumped off bridge
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Springfield authorities have ended their river search for one of two men who jumped out of a car and off a bridge on Tuesday while fleeing police.
Police said they were sought in a West Springfield housebreaking in which two men were seen carrying away a safe, and getting into a car.
Firefighters in boats checked the Connecticut River again Wednesday morning but found no sign of the missing man, who is presumed to have drowned.
The second man, 28-year-old Jonathan Lopez of Springfield, was rescued from the river Tuesday and turned over to police. A woman driving the car, 31-year-old Mercedes Rosado, 31, of New Britain, Connecticut, was arrested on the bridge.
Lopez and Rosado pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of burglary and larceny. Lopez was held on $50,000 bail and Rosado on $1,000 bail.
