DISTRICT 2 PLAYOFFS: Forecast Changes Baseball, Softball Schedules

An early afternoon downpour and the forecast of severe thunderstorms later led to the cancellation of almost all District 2 baseball and softball semifinals scheduled for Thursday afternoon. One game beat the weather, with Wyoming Seminary beating Mid Valley, 5-2, in a Class 3A baseball semifinal that started at lunchtime, but the other games on tap were moved to today or Saturday, with two being played at different sites. Dunmore’s baseball game with Lake-Lehman had been scheduled Thursday night at Schautz Stadium, but now that Class 3A game will move back to top-seeded Lake-Lehman today at 2. Semifinals in five classifications will be completed today, with the District 2 Class 6A subregional semifinals finding West Scranton at Hazleton Area at 12:30, and Delaware Valley at Williamsport at 4:30. In Class 5A, North Pocono visits Abington Heights at 4:30, and Wallenpaupack will play at Pittston Area at 5. In softball, Holy Cross will entertain Mountain View in Class 2A this evening at 6 at the University of Scranton’s Magis Field, the only semifinal change of venue. The other Class 2A semifinal this afternoon finds Northwest Area traveling to Elk Lake at 4:30. In Class 3A, Wyoming Seminary hosts Holy Redeemer this afternoon at 4:30, while Dunmore will make the short trip to Mid Valley for a game now slated Saturday at 6 p.m. Connell Park remains the location for the Class 4A game between West Scranton and host Scranton Prep, but first pitch will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Tunkhannock will host Honesdale today at 4:30 in the other half of the bracket. One time change has been made in Class 5A, with North Pocono heading to Pittston Area for their semifinal which will begin at 3.
