Lakers, Pacers Tied at 28 After 1
LOS ANGELES (AP) _ The Los Angeles Lakers, trying to take a 2-0 lead before the NBA Finals go to Indianapolis for three games, got a scare late in the first quarter Friday when Kobe Bryant left with a sprained left ankle.
Bryant, who made a jumper and twisted the ankle when he landed on the foot of the Pacers’ Jalen Rose, went to the locker room to have the ankle taped and was out for the game. His status for Sunday night’s Game 3 was uncertain.
The game was tied at 28 at the end of the first period, with Rose scoring 10 points and Reggie Miller eight for the Pacers. Miller, who shot 1-for-16 in the Finals opener, made three of his first four shots in the second game.
Ron Harper made all five of his shots to lead the Lakers with 11 points, and Shaquille O’Neal had six points and four rebounds.
Bryant had two points and four assists when he left the game.
After landing awkwardly on the shot _ a 12-footer which he made _ Bryant remained on the floor briefly, got to his feet and hopped on his right foot in obvious pain.
The Lakers, who won the opener 104-87, led 22-20 at the time, then made another basket before timeout was called with 3:05 left in the period.
