Circuit issue possible cause of Bridgeport, Trumbull power outages

November 25, 2018

United Illuminating is working to get power restored after a blackout knocked out power to more than 1,000 customers Saturday night.

The unplanned outage started at 9:48 p.m. And, according to the UI outage map, crews have been dispatched to the outage site.

“They lost a circuit. They’re working on it,” said a Bridgeport dispatcher, relaying information from a UI representative.

UI is reporting 1,169 customers in Trumbull without power as of 10:10 p.m. In Bridgeport, that number was far fewer, with 114 UI customers in the dark.

The outage map provided by UI indicated that power was expected to be restored to the area by 2 a.m. Sunday.

Initially, Bridgeport police and fire units thought a transformer might have blown in the area. Police reported the entire condominium complex on Lance Circle to the Trumbull line were without power.

A police unit was stationed at the intersection of Old Town Road and Madison Avenue to ensure traffic safety during the outage, which knocked out the traffic light.

A Bridgeport police officer reported the outages went beyond the Westfield Trumbull mall.
