SAFC’s swoon continues
Swope Parks Rangers grabbed control with a big first-half performance and held on to defeat San Antonio FC 2-1 Saturday in a United Soccer League match before 6,896 at Toyota Field.
The loss was SAFC’s fourth straight - the longest in USL competition in franchise history - and dropped the local club into 10th place in the Western Conference. The top eight squads make the playoffs and SAFC is three points out of eighth with nine matches remaining.
Swope Park Rangers scored twice in the first 25 minutes, with Hadji Barry striking in the sixth minute for a 1-0 lead and Amar Didic netted the game-winner 19 minutes later.
Down 2-0 at the intermission, SAFC closed within a goal on defender Darnell King’s tally in the 54th minute but got no closer.
