Juried exhibit award winners and opening reception Jan. 3

Scottsbluff — West Nebraska Arts Center presents a juried collection of 59 original works of art by 33 artists from Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado. The Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment sponsor this gallery exhibit which will be on display at WNAC January 3 – 27, 2019. An opening reception will be held Thursday, Jan. 3 from 5-7 p.m. Most artwork is for sale and can be viewed during business hours: Tuesday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and is free and open to the public.

All artwork in the 2019 Juried Exhibit was selected by artist and art historian, Sara Sharples who resides in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was just 9 years old when she began entering and winning juried art competitions. With this love for art discovered, Sara went on to obtain an Associate of the Arts Degree in Art History from Pikes Peak Community College and graduated from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs with a Bachelor’s in Art History, with a focus on fine art and gallery management.

For two years Sara served on the board of the Colorado Springs Art Guild, helping to produce juried art shows and provide classes for its members. Today, she works for the Pikes Peak Library District where she develops arts and crafts programs for adults and teens in the library’s Makerspace.

Photography, drawing, and crafting continue to be a hobby and passion for Sara and she seeks out art whenever and wherever she can.

Blue Galaxy, concrete, epoxy, glass crystals, oak solid base, by Gloria Floyd of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, was selected to receive “Best of Show.” “Honorable Mentions” were given to Ron Kephart of Mitchell, Nebraska, for Mosquito, 3-D mixed media, Yelena Khanevskaya of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, for January Shadows, oil on canvas, Pam Perry of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, for Barbed Wire & Wild Roses, burned, woodburned, sculpted, painted gourd. All awards were given by Sara Sharples.

Smith of Mitchell, Nebraska, Ansley Edelbrock of Parker, Colorado, Stina Armstrong, Francisco Chavez, Rod Clause, Roger Hill, Doris Holloway, Maria Lena Medina, Jim D. Miller, Priscilla Sandoz, Richard Schaneman, and Traci Wilkes of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Evelyn Smith of Wheatland, Wyoming.
