CLEVELAND (AP) — For the third time in four games, LeBron James has racked up a triple-double. The latest came Monday night in a 40--point performance in a 124-117 Cleveland win over Milwaukee. Kevin Love returned after missing six weeks because of a broken left hand and scored 18 for the Cavs. Associate head coach Larry Drew was at the helm because of coach Tyronn Lue’s health issues.
MONTREAL (AP) — Roberto Luongo stopped 28 shots for his third shutout of the season and 76th of his career, leading the Florida Panthers to a 2-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night. The Panthers are inching closer to a playoff position, pulling three points behind idle New Jersey for the second wild card in the Eastern Conference.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — A winter storm expected to hit the Northeast is forcing at least one college basketball team to alter its travel plans for the third round of the NCAA Tournament. West Virginia’s athletic department says the Mountaineers will depart Morgantown on Tuesday instead of Wednesday. West Virginia meets top-seeded Villanova in the East Region semifinals at TD Garden on Friday night.
AUSTIN (AP) — The PGA Tour, which is staging the Dell Match Play Championship in west Austin this week, says its security advisers are collaborating closely with law enforcement to try to ensure the safety of players and fans. Austin has been the site of four bombings this month, including a tripwire bomb on Sunday night that injured two men. It’s believed the attacks are the work of a serial bomber.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers will pay tribute to one of baseball’s most celebrated home runs by introducing a “Kirk Gibson seat” at Dodger Stadium. The seat will be added in the right field pavilion at the spot where Gibson’s game-ending homer landed during Game 1 of the 1988 World Series. The chair will be painted blue and feature Gibson’s signature. The perch will set a fan back $300, but the Dodgers will donate $200 to the Kirk Gibson Foundation to raise money and awareness for Parkinson’s research.
