Cross country: LPS teams sweep titles at River Run
HORICON — Luther Prep’s boys and girls cross country teams swept the titles at the River Run XC Invite on Thursday.
The Horicon Invite was not quite a 5K due to parts of the course being full of water.
The Phoenix boys scored 39 points and were followed by Cambellsport (91) and Waupun (100). The point scorers for the Phoenix today were freshman Ben Bode (second in 16 minutes, 47 seconds) and juniors Camden Sulzle (fourth, 16:53), Caleb Arndt (10th, 17:29), Chris Baumann (11th, 17:32) and Ethan Horn (12th, 17:34).
Luther Prep’s girls scored 33 points and were followed by Mayville (64) and Omro (84). Today’s point scorers were Maya Habben (second, 19:46), Abby Buege (third, 20:25), junior Hannah Schroeder (fourth, 20:49) sophomore Kate Mensching (seventh, 20:57) and freshman Mo Habben (18th, 21:57) scored for the Phoenix.
“Despite the mosquitoes, the Phoenix had a wonderful day with good team and individual finishes,” Luther Prep cross country coach Naomi Fritz said. “It was a blessed day to run.”
Luther Prep races Thursday at the Slinger Invitational at Owl Hollow.
Johnson Creek boys 9th,
Johnson Creek’s boys finished ninth out of 11 teams with a 250 score. Sophomore Dylan Gruss (28th, 18:59), senior Cole Ducklow (35th, 19:39) and freshmen Jacob Constable (48th, 20:19), Travis Christensen (69th, 22:32) and Joey Barganz (70th, 23:13) scored for the Bluejays.
The girls fielded an incomplete team.
Junior Hannah Constable won the race by 14 seconds in 19:31. Junior Mateah Roehl (37th, 23:35) and senior Taylor Hallam (42nd, 23:49) also competed for the Bluejays.
