Penn 67, La Salle 60

PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ Paul Romanczuk scored 16 points and Garrett Kreitz added 12 Thursday as Penn defeated cross-city rival La Salle 67-60.

Penn, which converted 21 of 23 foul shots, has won six straight over the Explorers (7-7) and holds a 30-20 lead in the all-time series.

Freshman Donnie Carr, the nation’s second-leading scorer going into the game, had 22 points for La Salle. Mike Gizzi had 20, but the Explorers made only 20 of 60 shots (33.3 percent).

The Quakers (6-7) took their biggest lead of the game, 49-37, on a 3-point shot by Kreitz with 13:30 left to play. La Salle rallied to within 58-53 with 4:30 left, but never got any closer.

Penn led 22-14 midway through the first half and had a 34-28 edge at halftime. Carr had 13 points in the half, but La Salle connected on only 9 of 30 shots.

Carr was 6-25 from the floor for the game.
