Pan Ams Boss Vasquez Rana Hospitalized
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) _ Pan American Sports Organization president Mario Vasquez Rana was hospitalized with pneumonia Sunday.
Vasquez Rana’s condition was described as good by Dr. Julio Miglione, a member of PASO’s executive committee.
Vasquez Rana, a Mexican whose age has been reported as 70 and 71, was rushed to the Armed Forces Hospital after developing a fever during a morning meeting. He underwent a battery of tests, which revealed bilateral pneumonia.
``At this point, he is perfectly all right and we expect him to resume his work as president of PASO within a few days,″ Miglione said.
Jose Joaquin Puello, head of the local organizating committee for the Pan American Games, also expressed optimism about Vasquez Rana’s condition.
``There is no reason for alarm at this time,″ said Puello, also a physician. ``There is nothing that could endanger Mr. Vasquez Rana’s life.″
