Moron of the Morning: Woman Pepper Sprays Dog, Gets Bitten By Owner
A California woman suspected of attacking and biting a jogger has been arrested, police said.
The suspect, identified as Oakland-resident Alma Cadwalader, 19, was booked Friday at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. The arrest comes after police sought the public’s help in identifying the suspect in the alleged aggravated assault. The incident was reported Thursday morning at Chabot Regional Park in Oakland.
The East Bay Regional Park District Police Department said the incident began when a female jogger used pepper spray to defend herself against a dog attack. A short time later, the jogger, a nurse, was accosted by the dog’s owner on the Goldenrod Trail between the Chabot Equestrian Center and the Oakland City Stables, police said. The suspect tackled and punched the jogger multiple times, and as the victim attempted to push her attacker away, she was bitten on her forearm by the suspect, police said.
“It was pretty obvious it was not canine bites but rather human teeth,” police Lt. David Phulps said. “In addition to the bite, there was punching, kicking. This dog owner stopped her in her tracks on the trail.” As the attacker walked away, the victim shot a video, following her at a distance, trying to entice her to turn around. But that didn’t work. Police said the attack was investigated as a violent response from a dog owner who took exception to her dog being pepper sprayed.
