Scottsbluff DECA chapter celebrates 60th anniversary
SCOTTSBLUFF — Scottsbluff’s DECA chapter is celebrating its 60th anniversary this school year. In celebration of the occasion, DECA students are organizing a dinner on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Scottsbluff High School commons area.
“We decided to do something special with a dinner,” Scottsbluff DECA advisor Justin Gipe said.
All Scottsbluff DECA members, alumni, business partners, school board members, chamber members and supporters are invited to join the chapter members in celebrating the occasion.
The students are working on organizing the event as part of a marketing project. For the project, students write a 20-page paper and organize an activity, with one of their projects to set up the dinner.
The DECA chapter will also have a special guest speaker for the event. Kevin Schaff is the founder and CEO of Twyst Inc., mentor at the Yale Entrepreneurship Institute and a Scottsbluff DECA alumnus.
“Kevin Schaff is one of the top entrepreneurs, even in the country, and to even have him come back and speak at this is a pretty big deal,” assistant principal of the career academies and special programming Justin Shaddick said. “He’s entertaining, he’s funny. I don’t think guests will be disappointed in hearing him talk about his personal stories and his success.”
The event will serve as a small fundraiser for the DECA chapter as well as the Scottsbluff Pro Start, which is catering the event.
Gipe said the students are also organizing something special for the evening, although details remain a secret as the students work through the planning stages.
Anyone interested in attending can RSVP at http://bit.ly/60RSVP by Friday, Dec. 14. The cost is $20 per person for the event, which includes pasta bar and dessert. For further information about the celebratory dinner, contact Gipe at email@example.com or 635-6230.
