Man shot dead after crash and Austin police confrontation
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A 27-year-old man was shot dead after a crash led to an armed confrontation with Austin police.
The incident began about 1:45 a. m. Tuesday when police found a crashed car in southeastern Austin with a man at the wheel who was holding a gun to his head. Police Chief Brian Manley says two officers tried to talk the man into putting down his weapon. Instead, Manley said the man raised his hands “as if there was a weapon in the hand and points in the direction of the officers.” The officers opened fire on the man.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead an hour and a half later.
Manley said the incident was captured on body and dashboard cameras.
