CINCINNATI (AP) _ The Houston Astros put left-hander Carlos Hernandez on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a sore pitching shoulder.

The Astros planned to replace him on the roster following their game Tuesday night against the Cincinnati Reds.

Hernandez, 22, struggled with his control and lasted only 1 1-3 innings Monday night in a 7-5 loss to the Reds. He needed 47 pitches to get four outs, and said after the game that his shoulder had bothered him on a few pitches.

The rookie hasn't won since May 31, going 0-2 in his last five starts with a 10.42 earned run average. He was scratched from a start last Thursday because the shoulder felt tight, but reported no problems when he threw in the bullpen a day later.
