Deer Park to stage Fire Prevention Parade
The Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department’s annual “Fire Prevention Parade” will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6.
The parade route will begin at Clyde Abshier Stadium and proceed along Center Street to behind Fire Station No. 1 in the Municipal Court and Theater Building parking lot.
“The annual Fire Prevention Parade is a time for the community to come together, show support for the fire department and start thinking about Fire Prevention Week, which will be held from Oct. 7-13,” Deer Park Fire Marshall Buddy Rice said in a press release. “We hope all of our residents will take the time to check the Emergency Management Facebook page throughout that week for tips on how to practice fire safety.”
Residents may pick up an updated Emergency Preparedness Guide from City Hall, the Community Center, the Deer Park Police Department, the Deer Park Public Library or Fire Station No. 3. The guides include valuable disaster preparedness information and directions on how to sign up for city emergency notifications through CodeRED.
Rice said refreshed social media content will be added to the city’s Facebook page throughout Fire Prevention Week.
Rice is urging all city households to identify places in the home where a fire could start, ensure that smoke alarm protection is provided and learn what to do if a smoke alarm sounds.
