MART Seeks Comment on Transit Plan
LEOMINSTER -- The Montachusett Regional Planning Commission is opening up a public comment period on changes it wants to make to the region’s Transportation Improvement Plan that includes new vans for the Gardner-based GAAMHA Inc. and a new van for The Arc of Opportunity in Fitchburg.
The amendment to the transportation plan also includes the elimination of several budgeted items for MART plus the addition of eight new truck bodies.
According to Brad Harris, the transportation project director for MRPC, the agency will open the comment period on Friday and close it on Feb. 14.
The MRPC’s Transportation Improvement Plan amendments include removing $220,000 in capital improvements at the MART facility on Water Street that included rewiring electrical panels at the Intermodel on Fitchburg’s Main Street, at a cost of $30,000; not replacing old air handlers and hot water heaters in the maintenance bays at the Water Street location, at a cost of $130,000; and not replacing lube pumps and reels at a cost of $40,000.
The amendment for the TIP includes the addition of $522,800 for the purchase of eight replacement cutaways (a type of truck body) for MART.
It also includes $127,600 to purchase a replacement van for GAAMHA, Inc., which is an organization that provides services to individuals with developmental disabilities in the region.
To increase GAAMHA’s service area, included in the TIP amendment is $48,400 for the purchase of a new van.
The Arc of Opportunity could also receive a new van, at a cost of $122,300, to increase its service area.
