Police: Ware man dies in Holyoke construction zone accident
HOLYOKE, Mass. (AP) — The construction worker struck and killed by a dump truck in a work zone on Interstate 91 in Holyoke this week has been identified as a Ware resident.
State police say the man killed at about 3 a.m. Wednesday was 51-year-old Richard O’Riley.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a truck contracted by a paving company was backing up when it struck O’Riley. Troopers working the construction detail administered first aid but EMTs declared the victim dead at the scene.
The truck that struck O’Riley was driven by a 54-year-old Westfield man. The death remains under investigation and no charges have been filed.
O’Riley worked for Palmer Paving. The company said in a statement that it is “mourning the loss of one of our family members.”
