2 elderly RI women found safe on Cape Cod

February 28, 2013

LINCOLN, R.I. (AP) — Police say two elderly women from Rhode Island who went missing Tuesday were found safe and unharmed on Cape Cod after getting confused and lost while driving.

Authorities say 89-year-old Ana Marchwicki of Lincoln and 75-year-old Marie Bonin of North Smithfield were found unharmed in Truro, Mass., on Wednesday, about a two-hour drive from Rhode Island.

Police say Bonin picked up Marchwicki at a retirement home in Lincoln Tuesday to spend the afternoon with her friend. When they didn’t return home later Tuesday, their families became worried because both women are diabetic. Marchwicki needs insulin injections.

Police issued a Silver Alert for them.

Authorities say the women were in good spirits Wednesday after eating and receiving their medications.
