Police accuse woman of kidnapping baby left with family

August 30, 2018

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Police in North Carolina have accused a woman of kidnapping a baby whose mother had left the child with family members.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said in a news release Thursday that after the woman left the baby to run errands, a girlfriend of one of the family members took the baby and left the home Monday.

Investigators say 23-year-old Winifred Mirambeau flagged down a motorist. Police said the man drove off before Mirambeau got him to stop and she got into the driver’s seat and drove to Interstate 77 and to Mooresville in Iredell County. Mirambeau then got out of the vehicle on the interstate with the baby.

Mirambeau was taken to police headquarters and charged with first-degree kidnapping and child abduction. It’s not known if she has an attorney.
