Breakdown: Last year, Hazleton Area beat Delaware Valley 15-0 in the semifinals and Williamsport 10-6 in the championship. The Cougars have nearly everyone back from that team that rolled to a district title and then won a first-round state playoff game. Hazleton Area has six players who are batting .400 or better, led by Marissa Trivelpiece (.483, 10 home runs, 35 RBIs). The others are Julia Mrochko, Olivia Wolk, Kyra Antolick, Aleah Kost and Tiana Treon. Hazleton Area suffered its first loss May 14 at Berwick, but rebounded with wins over Pittston Area and Valley View. … Williamsport is on a four-game win streak, including a 12-2 win at home against Berwick, which is the only team to beat Hazleton Area. Williamsport also faced two other District 2 teams in Nanticoke Area and Abington Heights. While Williamsport beat Nanticoke Area 6-1, the Millionaires were crushed, 15-3, by Abington Heights. … Delaware Valley’s offense can score a lot of runs when it gets going, having scored at least nine runs in eight games. … Scranton played a difficult schedule and it shows with the amount of losses they collected, including two against Abington Heights, two against Scranton Prep and one each against Pittston Area and Wallenpaupack. Sophomore Emma McNally leads Scranton with a .400 batting average.
