Death of NY man in NJ after 2-state pursuit ruled suicide
HARDWICK, N.J. (AP) — State authorities say a New York man found shot to death in a wooded area in New Jersey following a two-state police pursuit a year ago died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
New Jersey’s attorney general said Tuesday that 47-year-old Todd Gregory of Coram, New York shot himself in June 2018 in Hardwick while being sought after Suffolk County authorities alleged he fired at a group of teens.
Troopers approaching his vehicle reported a gunshot and a trooper fired multiple rounds. The attorney general said four rounds struck Gregory but he died of a self-inflicted rifle wound to the chest. The death was ruled suicide.
Family attorney Shelley Stangler told NJ Advance Media that the family doesn’t consider the attorney general’s findings and conclusions “a final disposition of this matter.”
