Actress Wounded in Accidental Shooting
SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) _ Actress Carre Otis was wounded in an accidental shooting during a visit to New Mexico, where boyfriend Mickey Rourke was making a movie, police said.
The incident occurred Sept. 22, police Lt. Gerri Lujan said.
Rourke was filming the mystery thriller ″White Sands″ in New Mexico at the time, publicist Jean Murphy-Burke said this week.
Ms. Lujan said the 23-year-old actress told investigators she and three friends returned from the New Mexico State Fair in Albuquerque late that Sunday to a home in the Wilderness Gate area of Santa Fe.
Ms. Lujan said Miss Otis apparently carried a .357-caliber Magnum in her purse, and the gun went off when she set the purse down on a kitchen counter.
″Everybody heard a loud bang. They dropped to their knees,″ the lieutenant said.
Miss Otis discovered her upper left arm and shoulder were bleeding, but the bullet had exited and ″there was no damage to any organs, bone or anything,″ Ms. Lujan said.
Officers interviewed Miss Otis at St. Vincent Hospital. She was released the following day. Later, authorities again interviewed her and others before classifying the shooting as accidental, Ms. Lujan said.
Miss Otis does not appear in ″White Sands,″ which is in its final two weeks of filming near Alamogordo, Murphy-Burke said.
