Crash on icy road near Houston sends man, woman to hospital
HOUSTON — A Houston man and woman were hospitalized after a single-car crash east of Houston on Monday.
Julia Kathleen Shay, 45, of Houston was traveling east on Minnesota Highway 16 just east of Houston taking a curve in the road and crossing a bridge at about 12:07 p.m. when she lost control of the 1999 Ford Explorer she was driving and entered the south ditch. There, the vehicle struck a Department of Natural Resources road sign and a tree before coming to rest on the passenger side of the vehicle in the ditch, according to a Minnesota State Patrol report.
A glazing of ice covered the road, the state patrol report states.
The Houston Fire Department was needed to extricate both Shay and her passenger, Windel Ray Harvey, 46, of Houston from the vehicle. Both individuals were transported by Houston Emergency Medical Services to Mayo Clinic Hospital in La Crosse, each suffering non-life threatening injuries, the report states. No updates were available on their conditions.
The Houston County Sheriff’s Office and Houston Police Department also responded to the scene.
