Clemson Names Basketball Coach

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) _ Larry Shyatt, named the Western Athletic Conference’s coach of the year during his only season at Wyoming, is Clemson’s new basketball coach, the school announced Saturday.

Shyatt, 46, will be introduced at a 3 p.m. news conference Monday.

He worked for nine years as assistant for ex-Tiger coach Rick Barnes, who left this past week to take the Texas job.

Shyatt spent his only year as a college head coach guiding Wyoming to a 19-9 record and a berth in the NIT.

``Larry Shyatt is a great fit for Clemson,″ Clemson athletic director Bobby Robinson said. ``He will provide us with a quality basketball program in all areas.″
