Man who drowned in Black River in Elyria after falling down 50-foot embankment identified

ELYRIA, Ohio — The Lorain County Coroner has identified the man who drowned Tuesday after falling down a 50-foot embankment into the Black River. 

Dale Gobeille was pronounced dead at the scene after he fell from the embankment, the coroner’s office said.

Elyria fire department said Gobeille and his wife fell down the embankment Tuesday afternoon behind a home in the 1000 block of Harrison Street. Authorities tried to rescue the couple, but Gobeille did not survive.

Gobeille’s wife refused medical treatment for minor injuries after the fall. 

Officials have not yet said how the couple managed to fall down the embankment.
