Three Charged With Murder in French Quarter Anti-Homosexual Stabbing
NEW ORLEANS (AP) _ Three men were charged with murder in the stabbing death of a man police say was victimized because his attackers mistakenly thought he was homosexual.
Joseph Balog, 23, was walking through the French Quarter with a friend last week when the two men were attacked by men shouting anti-homosexual jeers.
Police said the victims were not gay.
Booked Thursday evening on murder charges were Grant Wayne Gunderson, 24; Ronald D. Graves, 24; and Mingo Graham, 23.
There may be more arrests. Balog and his unidentified 26-year-old friend were attacked by four or five people on Nov. 11.
The city’s homosexual community responded last week with a rally and candlelight march to the intersection where Balog died.
