LAKE MILLS -- Karen L. Tway, 77, Lake Mills, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019, at her home.

She was born on Nov. 12, 1941, in Clifton, the daughter of the late Irwin and Clara Mae (Hanson) Nelson and attended Tomah High School.

She married Phillip Tway on July 12, 1958, and moved to Lake Mills in 1959; they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Karen worked for the Lake Mills School District and retired with almost 28 years of service as food service director in 2005.

Karen appreciated and was well liked by students, staff and co-workers in the schools throughout the district. The farm she grew up on in Clifton held a special place in her heart and she enjoyed returning home for visits and family reunions. She loved watching the Packers, reading, gardening and doing crossword puzzles. She had a good sense of humor and could often be heard laughing when conversing with others. Karen loved seeing and visiting with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Phillip; children, Jean (Larry) Jelken of Jefferson, Bruce (Monica) Tway of Omaha, Nebraska, David (Debra) Tway of Neosho, Douglas (Debbie) Tway and Andrew Tway of Lake Mills; brothers, Jerry (Ann) Nelson of Madison, Robert (Linda) Nelson of Hustler; sister, Betty McConnell of St. Paul, Minnesota; sister-in-law Twinkle Nelson of Atlanta, Georgia; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and lifelong friend, Karen Ulrich.

Preceding her in death was her brother, Alan Nelson.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Real Hope Community Church in Lake Mills with Pastor Craig Legel officiating. A luncheon will follow the service. Visitation will be at the church from 1 p.m. Saturday until the time of service.

If desired, memorials may be made to the UW Cancer Center in Johnson Creek, Lake Mills EMS, Lake Mills Food Pantry or one’s choice.

The family would like to thank the Lake Mills EMS and Fire Department for all their assistance and care at the time of Mother’s passing.
