Girls basketball: Atascocita, Summer Creek on top in District 22-6A

For the first time this season, Atascocita and Summer Creek are both ranked in Class 6A in Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll.

The Lady Eagles (16-5, 5-0) are ranked No. 19 with the Lady Bulldogs (15-4, 5-1) right behind at No. 20.

Atascocita handed Summer Creek its first district loss of the season after a 50-45 victory on Dec. 21. The Eagles remain undefeated in district play and secured the top spot in District 22-6A. Summer Creek sits at No. 2 in the district standings through the Christmas break.

Both teams will meet again at 7 p.m. Jan. 29 at Summer Creek.

Atascocita and Summer Creek both have showed dominance in district play.

The Lady Eagles have outscored their opponents 401-170 so far through six district games. Atascocita is averaging 66.8 points per game and the defense has held its opponents to 28.3 points per game.

The Lady Bulldogs have outscored their opponent 383-219 in district play. Summer Creek is averaging 63.8 points per game while allowing its opponents to score 36.5 points per game.

Humble sits in fourth place right now with a 4-2 record in district play. The Lady Wildcats are looking to get into the playoffs for the first time under head coach Jessica Gaines.

The Lady Wildcats’ two loses have come against Summer Creek and Dobie.

Kingwood has struggled out to start district play, but holds a 2-5 record with the second half of district to play still ahead.

Kingwood Park competing for top spot

Kingwood Park currently sits in at No. 2 in District 20-5A.

The Lady Panthers are 6-1 in district play and are led by senior forward Allie Byrd.

Bryd scored her 2,000 career point for K-Park this season against Porter.

The Lady Panthers are looking up to Hunstville, who is 6-0 in district play.

K-Park will host Huntsville on Jan. 4.
