Santa Fe public safety workers go bald for St. Baldrick’s

Sheriff Adan Mendoza takes the honorary first swipe of Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office employee Jessica Mascareñas-Rodarte’s hair at the second annual Santa Fe Heroes charity fundraiser Sunday.

Mascareñas-Rodarte, a records supervisor, was one of about 50 volunteers who had their heads shaved at the county fairgrounds. The event raised more than $12,000 for childhood cancer research. The sheriff’s office and the Santa Fe Fire Department organized the event, which benefits the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a national nonprofit.

As Mascareñas-Rodarte waited for the clippers to whir, an onlooker yelled out, “Jess, you look really nervous.” “I am,” she replied. “But let’s do this.”
