Crash by LaOtto ends police chase
A two-county car chase that reached speeds of nearly 100 mph Monday ended when the driver lost control and wound up in a ditch, Kendallville police said in a statement.
The chase started when a 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix was reported stolen from Autumn Hills Drive in Avilla in Noble County about 1:15 p.m. A Kendallville police officer spotted the car about 1:35 p.m., police said.
With the officer following, the car went east on U.S. 6. Several officers initiated a traffic stop at Indiana 327 at the west edge of Corunna in DeKalb County, the statement said, but the car fled past at speeds nearing 100 mph and continued toward Interstate 69.
The car went south on I-69, past Indiana 8, then traveled west on County Road 11A toward 327, then sped west on Indiana 205.
When it reached Indiana 3 and crossed the intersection, the driver lost control. The car glanced off a trailer being towed by a pickup truck and flipped on its top. It came to rest in a ditch on Indiana 205, the statement said.
The male driver was taken to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. His female passenger was not injured, police said. Charges are pending.
The driver’s name was not released.
