Schools dismiss early as temperatures sizzle

In recent years, it seems like the beginning of school has been greeted by a heatwave.

That’s the current situation, as 90-plus degree temperatures are in the forecast for both today and Tuesday with heat indexes expected to push into triple digits.

Several schools already have scheduled early dismissal for these days according to their websites. Others had not posted any decision as of early this morning. Check with individual schools and districts for the most up-to-date information.

Here’s an unofficial list of schools that have set early dismissals:

Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School

Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School will dismiss at 11:20 a.m. both today and Tuesday. An open house set for tonight also has been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.

Kankakee School District 111

Kankakee School District 111 also has set early dismissal for today and Tuesday. Junior high students will dismiss at 10:50 a.m., and kindergarten through sixth-grade students at noon. High school freshmen still are on a half day schedule, and sophomores, juniors and seniors are on an online schedule as construction continues at the school.

Bishop McNamara Catholic system

The Bishop McNamara Catholic system is dismissing early today. The Bradley and Bourbonnais sites will dismiss at noon, the Kankakee junior high site at 12:30 and the high school site at 1:10 p.m.

Bradley Elementary schools

The three Bradley Elementary schools are set for early dismissal today and Tuesday. The Central site will let out at 12:30 p.m., the East site at 1 and the West site at 1:30.

Peotone schools

Peotone schools will dismiss early today with the intermediate center letting out at 11 a.m., the elementary school at 11:50, the high school at 11:55 and the junior high at noon.
