July 22, 2013

OREGON, Ill. (AP) — Authorities believe they have identified a man whose body was found Monday morning in the Rock River in northern Illinois.

Police in the city of Oregon say they expect to be able to release the man’s name Tuesday, pending notification of his family.

A couple out fishing in northern Illinois found the man’s body near Kiwanis Park in Oregon. Police earlier Monday described the man as white, elderly, with white hair and dressed in black shoes, black pants and black suspenders.

Authorities say they found a baseball cap, brown wooden cane and red flannel shirt on the riverbank. They found no wallet or other form of identification or any vehicle.

Police recovered the body, with help from Oregon Ambulance, Oregon Fire Department and the Ogle County coroner.
