LEOMINSTER -- The Leominster High School girls’ volleyball team opened the season with an impressive win, blanking visiting Innovation Academy of Tyngsboro, 3-0.

Gabriela Guzman led the Blue Devils with 16 service points, while Destina Vevo Amore added nine service points in the victory. Also playing well for the hosts were Faith Akoachere, Jonielys Pinto and Hailey McGinnis.

Leominster will travel to face rival Fitchburg on Tuesday.

Junior Nolan Brassard, of Leominster, scored off of a corner kick by sophomore Yannick DePina for Fitchburg State’s lone goal. Junior Ga Massicotte made four saves for Fitchburg State (1-1) in defeat.

Next up for the Falcons is Sazturday’s 10 a.m. contest against visiting Becker College.

Emma Marinchev scored the lone goal for Lunenburg, assisted by Jessica Morse, as the Blue Knights opened the season at home with a tie. Also starring for Lunenburg, Jenna Morse made six saves, while Rachel Drasser and Elizabeth Walsh were strong in the midfield.

Girls’ volleyball

Nashoba 3

Wachusett 0

The Chieftains (1-0) cruised to victory at home, winning by set scores of 25-16, 25-13 and 25-14. Emily Keveaney led the way for Nashoba with four aces out of 22 attempts and only one error. Additionally, middles Emily Keveaney and Lexi Richards were stellar at the net with .444 and .375 hitting percentages, respectively.
