Coppin St. 96, Howard 66

BALTIMORE (AP) _ Antoine Brockington and Fred Warrick each scored 19 to lead Coppin State to a 96-66 win over Howard Monday night, giving the Eagles their ninth straight victory.

Holding a 14-11 advantage with 12 1/2 minutes left in the first period, Coppin outscored the Bison, 25-4, over a 9 1/2-minute span.

By the time Fred Warrick canned a pair of free throws with 3:06 left in the half, the Eagles held a 39-15 lead, and Howard never got any closer than 17 the rest of the way.

Coppin (13-7), shooting a season-high 64 percent for the game, made 16 of 24 field goal attempts in the first half, while the Bison struggled, shooting 36 percent.

The final margin was Coppin’s largest lead, as the Eagles cleared the bench in the second half.

Six Eagles reached double figures, led by Antoine Brockington and Fred Warrick, who each scored 19. Danny Singletary finished with 12 points for Coppin, which remained in a first-place tie with South Carolina State, a winner over Delaware State, in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference standings.

Jermaine Holliway led Howard (4-16) with 20 points.
