BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) _ Sophomore Marcus Jacoby threw for 138 yards and two touchdowns and Southern University’s defense shut down Northwestern State’s touted passing attack Saturday night in a 27-9 victory over the Demons.

The outcome kept Southern unbeaten after two games and spoiled Northwestern’s season opener.

Jacoby completed 13 of 22 passes and both of his touchdown throws helped Southern build a 14-7 halftime lead. He threw four yards to Brian Turner for the Jaguars’ first score less than five minutes into the game and threw a 45-yard scoring pass to John George with just 1:12 remaining in the first half.

Southern also got a 4-yard touchdown run from Ryan Lewis in the second period and a 6-yard touchdown run in the fourth period from Steve Wofford, who finished with 148 yards on 32 carries.

Northwestern scored on a 37-yard field goal by Eric Collins in the second period and on a 14-yard pass from Brandon Emmanuel to Chris Prichett in the third quarter.
