Woman Calls Police, Admits to 1983 Slaying
PORT CHESTER, N.Y. (AP) _ A 26-year-old woman confessed in a midnight call to police that she had killed her boyfriend in 1983 - a death initially ruled a heroin overdose, authorities said Monday.
Mary Colasanto was arrested and charged with second-degree murder following the call to Port Chester police just after 12 a.m. on Sunday, said Port Chester police spokesman Lt. Carl Verrastro.
Ms. Colasanto was arraigned Sunday and ordered held without bail at the Westchester County Jail in the Oct. 26, 1983, death of 26-year-old Lorenzo Giorno, Verrastro said. The case was reopened following her confession, he said.
Giorno’s body was found by his brother on a bedroom floor in their home, authorities said. An autopsy found that Giorno died of a heroin overdose, a spokesman for the Westchester County medical examiner said.
Port Chester Police Chief John Grosse refused to comment on the case until he could discuss it with the county medical examiner’s office.
