Newspaper And Liberal Bias Accusation
Editor: I couldn’t let J.E. Smith’s March 7 opinion letter go without a reply. He complains that The Citizens’ Voice shows liberal bias against president Trump and never prints his many accomplishments, a list of achievements so vast that even he cannot share one with the readers. I tried to think of one and the closest I could come up with was during his trip to Puerto Rico, after Hurricane Maria, I don’t think the president was aiming at anyone in particular when he was throwing the paper towels at the people. There is one accomplishment of the president that I can offer. There was a time when Democrats and Republicans would reach a compromise so a bill could be passed because they respected each other’s opinion. You are either a liberal democrat or a conservative republican and let’s not forget the socialist Democrat and Putin Republican. We no longer have the option to disagree. We now refuse to tolerate disagreement. You’re either on the president’s side or against him and subject to nonsensical tweets. The president has turned disagreement into hatred and he has embraced it. It is no wonder that the events in Charlottesville (Unite the Right, death by auto Rally) and Alexandria (Congressional baseball shooting) were able to occur. We are at the point where we don’t believe the truth simply because we don’t like the person telling it or the facts behind it and that is the saddest part of this administration. But I digress, the only suggestion I can give to Mr. Smith is that he be patient. As soon as the president does something positive the Voice will print it. Patrick Smith HANOVER TWP.
