Wind advisory issued for parts of CT

April 3, 2019

BRIDGEPORT — With winds up to 50 mph expected throughout the day Wednesday, the National Weather Service announced a wind advisory would be in effect until 9 p.m.

The advisory is in effect for Fairfield, New Haven and Middlesex counties.

The Bridgeport area can expect winds between 15 and 25 mph for the most part, with some gusts up to 50 mph likely.

Strong winds could take down trees, tree limbs and power lines, the weather service said. Scattered power outages — which should be reported to utility companies — are expected.

The weather service issues a wind advisory any time there are sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph, or gusts between 46 and 57 mph.

“Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles, in open areas, and on elevated roads and brides,” the NWS said. “Use extra caution.”
