Warriors slay Dragons
The Schuyler Lady Warriors softball team used a nine-run second inning scoring explosion and a solid pitching performance from junior Jaiden Inselman to smash the Madison/Humphrey/Lindsay Dragons by a score of 12-2 at the SCHS softball complex on Tuesday, August 21st.
The Lady Warriors had beaten the Dragons three days earlier at the North Bend Invitational by a score of 11-1 and proved their victory was no fluke as they cruised to their second victory of the season.
Inselman looked sharp throughout her four innings of action on the mound allowing five hits and striking out three without any walks. The two against her were both unearned due to errors on the infield.
Jaiden Sock led off the game with a walk, stole second then came home on Inselman’s hard single to left field for a 1-0 lead.
The Dragons came back to score their two runs in the top of the second inning to take a short-lived 2-1 lead. Claire Schaecher scored on an error by the Schuyler first baseman and Blair Korth scored when the Lady Warriors centerfielder misplayed a fly ball.
The Lady Warriors answered by sending 14 batters to the plate and scoring nine times. Schuyler bashed Madison starting pitcher Kristen Herchenbach for seven singles, a double, and three walks.
Key hits in the inning were a two run double by Guadalupe Velasquez, a two run single by Leslie DeArcos, and RBI singles by Jaiden Sock, Jaki Mejia, Mia Wallingford, and Velasquez.
SCHS added two runs in the fourth inning to end the game with on the 10-run Mercy Rule. Mia Wallingford scored on a wild pitch after a leadoff single and Britney Nevarez walked home from third base when Jaki Mejia was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
At the plate DeArcos went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Inselman also went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Velasquez was 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs and one run scored while Wallingford went 1 for 3 with three runs scored and Mejia went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI and one run the scored.
