HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP McClammy leads Cardinals to softball win
The Greenwich High School softball team recorded a 4-3 eight-inning win over host Fairfield Warde in an FCIAC game held on Wednesday in Westport.
Sophomore catcher Olivia McClammy went 4 for 5 with one RBI, while Emma Beinstein, a senior shortstop had one hit and two RBI to pace the Cardinals.
Senior pitcher Sophia Prieto was 2 for 5 with one RBI. On the mound, Prieto struck out five and issued only one walk. Charlie Faugno, a senior, added two clutch hits for the Cardinals.
Greenwich scored two runs in the first inning, one in the second and one in the top of the eighth inning. The Cards finished with eight hits for the game.
GREENWICH BOYS LACROSSE
The Cardinals celebrated Senior Day in style on Wednesday, upending Brien McMahon, 16-9. With the win, Greenwich evened its record to 7-7.
Jack Feda, a senior attack, tallied seven goals and three assists to power the Cardinals. Senior Charlie Graves registered three goals and three assists, while senior Owen Gwozdz added one goal and five assists in the winning effort.
Also pacing the Cardinals were: seniors Matt Davey (two goals), Lance Large (one goal), Nick Veronis (one goal, one assist) and Tyler Dietrich (one goal). Senior Teddy Bacon made seven saves for the Cardinals, who were 14 of 28 on faceoffs.
GREENWICH HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS GOLF
The Cardinals were defeated by Fairfield Ludlowe, 183-192, in an FCIAC match held at Griffith E. Harris Golf Course in Greenwich on Wednesday.
Junior Sydney Nethercott carded a 39 to lead Greenwich. Senior Grace Sunoo shot a 49, while Jackie Intriere finished with a 50 for the Cardinals (6-4, 4-3 FCIAC).
Pacing Ludlowe was Catherine Wallace, who shot a 43. Juliet Bucher shot a 44, while Phoebe Burtt and Steph Barry each posted rounds of 49 for the Falcons (5-1 FCIAC).
GREENWICH HIGH GIRLS WATER POLO
The Cardinals improved their record to 8-1 on the season by defeating visiting Sacred Heart Greenwich, 20-12, on Wednesday.
Freshman Bella Schraa led the Cardinals in the scoring department, scoring a team-best six goals. Kaila Carroll registered five goals, while Charlotte Hallisey scored four times and Jenna Handali recorded a hat trick in the winning effort.
Kate Turkeltaub and Emma Phillips added one goal apiece.
Greenwich hosts its Cardinal Tournament on Friday evening.
GREENWICH HIGH GIRLS TENNIS
Greenwich continued its successful week with a 6-1 triumph against host Fairfield Warde on Wednesday.
Nathalie Williams swept to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at first singles, while Christina Gianesello was a 7-5, 6-3 victory at third singles. At the fourth spot, Kendall Schrohe posted a 7-5, 6-1 win.
Yui Inagawa/Amy Bickham tallied another straight set win at the No. 1 doubles spot, winning 6-0, 6-1. Abby Shropshire/Hannah Viney gave the team a 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 win at second doubles and Rachael Karetsky/Catherine Daye won their match, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3.
