Giuliani Wife Going Off-Broadway
NEW YORK (AP) _ Actress and television personality Donna Hanover, the wife of Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, is joining the cast of the off-Broadway hit ``The Vagina Monologues″ next month.
Beginning May 30, Hanover will take over a lead role in the play written by Eve Ensler, a personal friend and political supporter of Hillary Rodham Clinton, Giuliani’s opponent in the U.S. Senate race.
Joannie Danielides, Hanover’s spokeswoman, confirmed the casting. Calls seeking comment from the mayor’s office were not immediately returned early today.
Hanover will perform in the stage show for two weeks, sharing the play’s dozen or so monologues with two other women.
The monologues are constructed from interviews Ensler held with women on topics including orgasm, uncomfortable pelvic exams, sexual abuse, sexual fantasies and childbirth.
Ensler had been performing all of the monologues herself until February, when the she began sharing the lead with rotating trios of performers, including Broadway performers such as Audra McDonald and singer Alanis Morissette.
Hanover has appeared on the big screen in films including ``The People vs. Larry Flynt″ and ``Light it Up,″ and on TV in soap operas such as ``One Life to Live″ and ``All My Children.″ She also is the host of a program on the Food Network.
