Vacant warehouse to be demolished after intense fire

October 8, 2018

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A fire official says the vacant eastern Pennsylvania warehouse heavily damaged by fire will be demolished Tuesday.

Capt. John Christopher of the Allentown fire department says the building was a complete loss following the blaze first reported at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Hundreds watched as flames shot high into the sky and heavy, dark smoke billowed from windows.

Christopher says fire crews had to battle the blaze from outside because the structure wasn’t safe to enter. The flames were brought under control early Monday but crews spent Monday mopping up hot spots.

One firefighter was treated at a hospital for burns to his hands and later released, but no residents were injured. One nearby home was evacuated as a precaution. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
