Warhol Funeral to be Private
NEW YORK (AP) _ A private funeral will be held in Pennsylvania for Andy Warhol, the influential pop artist, his manager said Monday. A memorial service in New York is to follow.
Warhol’s survivors - brothers John Warhola, of Pittsburgh, and Paul Warhola, of Elizabeth, Pa. - planned a private service, Wednesday or Thursday at the earliest, said the manager, Fred Hughes.
The location and time of the funeral had not been set and probably would not be made public, said Hughes, reached at Warhol’s studio in Manhattan.
A memorial service was being planned for New York in about two weeks, but no details had been established, Hughes said.
Warhol, 58, suffered a fatal heart attack as he slept Sunday morning at New York Hospital, where he underwent gall bladder surgery Saturday.
City coroners conducted an autopsy Monday. ″The cause of death will be determined following further study, including microscopic examination of tissues and chemical tests,″ Dr. Elliot Gross, the chief medical examiner, said in a statement.
Gross was not available to elaborate, his office said. He earlier had said the autopsy was being conducted because deaths during or shortly after surgery are considered unusual.
