Running Toilet Tiff Leads Man To Choke Pregnant Girlfriend
HANOVER TWP. — A dispute about a running toilet caused a township man to choke his pregnant girlfriend Sunday night, according to police.
Officers responded to 62 Marcy Court for a domestic dispute around 9: 15 p.m. Sunday and encountered Amina Asep, who reported her boyfriend, Oliver Jerome Singletary, 32, had assaulted her.
Police say Singletary and Asep began arguing about a running toilet and that as things escalated Singletary began to “smush” Asep’s face.
Asep, who is seven months pregnant, reported that Singletary then choked her to the point she couldn’t breathe, police said. Singletary claimed Asep hit him in the face first, but admitted to pulling her hair and choking her, police said.
Neither person was visibly injured, but an ambulance was dispatched to the scene after Asep began complaining about severe stomach pains, police said.
Police arrested Singletary, who had a bag of marijuana in his front right pocket and a bag containing about 30 grams of marijuana in his inner jacket pocket, according to the charges. Police say Singletary had no paraphernalia to consume the large quantity of marijuana, indicating he planned to sell it.
Police charged Singletary with aggravated assault, strangulation, drug trafficking, simple assault and harassment. Magisterial District Judge Michael G. Dotzel arraigned Singletary on the charges Monday morning and set bail at $15,000.
He was being held at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility with a preliminary hearing set for Nov. 28.
