Man sentenced to 40 years in beating death of teenage cousin
PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) — A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to 40 years behind bars for the beating death of his 16-year-old cousin.
News outlets report that Dexter Kelley was sentenced in a Jackson County courtroom Thursday after pleading guilty to second-degree murder.
Cliff Allyn’s body was found in the woods near his Vancleave home in March 2016, a day after he had been reported missing.
Kelley says he and Allyn had gotten into an argument at their grandmother’s home. Kelley says he punched his cousin, stabbed him repeatedly in the neck with a screwdriver, beat him with a ratchet and then dumped his body using an ATV.
The Sun Herald reports that Kelley was not taking his prescribed medication for his mental illness at the time of the killing.
