Town of Laguna Vista to host “First Annual Fire Fighters 5K/10K Run”

October 2, 2018

LAGUNA VISTA — Racing against time to save people and animals from dangerous situations, battling against scorching fires and volunteering their time at local nonprofit events — these are some of the many duties firefighters provide to communities.

Coinciding with “National Fire Prevention Week,” the town of Laguna Vista will host its “First Annual Fire Fighters 5K/10K Run” fundraiser at Roloff Park on Oct. 6 at 7:30 a.m.

Laguna Vista’s volunteer firefighters provide around the clock services and work alongside neighboring fire departments in times of crisis.

All proceeds raised from the run will go toward the purchase of bunker gear that the town’s volunteer fire fighters need.

City personnel are hoping to raise $3,000 to $4,000, but they say it all depends on the turn-out. They’re asking people to sign-up and participate in the run.

“ We are encouraging the community to step forward, participate in this event and help support our fire fighters that honorably serve them,” said Laguna Vista City Manager Rolando Vela.

Several people took to Facebook to show their support for the fundraiser and the fire department.

Stephanie Wilson wrote in a post, "Come out and support our incredible firefighters!”

Additionally, people expressed their support for the town.

“ Much RESPECT to all you first responders. Laguna Vista is a cool lil town,” Marcus Smith commented on a post of the event.
